Hi,
    No HALT here :-) We use charged slides and a plain old distilled water
bath with no additives. To prevent wash offs we dry our slides overnight at
50 deg, I have found adhesives to add to background staining. When used with
charged slides it completely defeats the point of using the charged slides.
Also I have been told that the proteinacious material in adhesives (like
HALT) can interfere with an antibody's affinity and avidity, thereby causing
reduced or otherwise unpredictable results. That part I have not directly
observed but it seems logical. My advise: dry the heck out of your slides
before staining them and I swear by charged slides.
