Fwd: resin embedding for LM
From: | "Dr. Ian Montgomery" |
Anila,
From your
description is sounds as if something is loose. Check everything is tight
- block in holder, holder in orientation head, head on microtome, knife
in carriage. Also make sure the knife edge is properly wetted. Are you
using glass or diamond? If glass make sure the edge is good, a blunt
knife can produce chatter. How is the instrument with other material and
knives from the same batch of
glass.
Softening
the block, a non starter.
Oh, final thought, check the clearance angle.
Ian.

Dear all,
I have embedded tiny yet valuable, blocks of corpus callosum in TAAB
epoxy
resin, but it seems to be too hard.
The blocks are juddering and the sections are coming off with
horizontal
lines accross them. Everything is tight enough and held in place.
Is there a solution to this problem?
Can I soften the resin in any way?
Many Thank as always for your help,
Anila Syed
