Dear Ian, I do not know anything about the Movat's, but we have used the 
PTAH (for muscle)from the old green AFIP book for many years. We made a 
liter of the PTAH solution in 1990. We let it ripen on its own for about 6 
months and it stains deeper and better every year that passes. Obviously we 
don't do a lot of PTAHs....maybe about five a year. We stain in very small 
slide mailers (the ones that hold five slides) so we only use about 20 mls 
at a time.  Good Luck.
