Re: Viral infections

From:Aidan Schurr

We have a similar system with our network. At home I run AVG, which is a fantastic virus checker that monitors everything when you are surfing the net, and warns you of anything dodgy. It also checks all incoming mail and certifies outgoing mail as virus free. It has a scheduler that runs a full scan at specified intervals, and automatically updates itself when its database is out of date. It has saved my bacon on several occasions.

"Sounds just like Norton" you say. Yes it does, but this one's FREE!! - inculding the updates.

Thoroughly recommend it. (...and I'm not in any way affiliated, yada yada...)

These days you simply cannot afford to be without virus protection. Check out www.grisoft.com for AVG if you are interested.

Cheers,
Aidan

Russ, I have had the same experience at home and at work. Here in the
hospital, our LAN will not even allow any email if it thinks it is
corrupted with a virus. At home I have Dr. Norton and he flash a huge
red sign warning me of any virus or worm intent on entering my system.
All of these have come through the histonet server and from people whose
names are familiar ones on the histonet. We all need to be extra
cautious; there are some real troublemakers out there.
Best Regards,
Noreen

Not sure how many of you will open this message given the subject
heading title I've given it!
Last week, for the third or fourth time in about two months, I picked up

the same virus when reading Histonet contributions.

Each had the following "name" W32/klez.emf"
The last one was from " peitlow"
The last one also had the following in the subject heading "Look at my
beautiful girlfriend"

You may wish to note thant on NONE of the occasions did I actually
open the e-mail (especially the last one - for those who doubt me!!)

Dr Soloman told me on each occasion that the message carried a virus
and refused to co-operate with me until I had eradicated it (the virus,
that is)

I write to warn of the virus and also reflect on the coincidence that
