Pathologist #3 is right. It's the heparin. It makes everything look blue. 
Pathologists #1 and #2 are also right. The marrow particles (spicules are 
bone) should be smeared before the surrounding blood has time to clot. 

Why don't you ask Pathologist #3 to show you how to prepare a bone marrow 
smear?
