Re: Charging for HER2 (c-erbB-2)

If the case is more than 6 months old we re-accession it (give it a new surgical pathology number with a new date-of-service). In the report we state that immunoperoxidase staining for HER2 protein was performed at the request of the medical oncologist (if he or she ordered it). The specimen is coded 88342 (for in-house cases) and 88323/88342 (for outside consults); there are separate Part A and Part B charges.
