I've used the Sakura coverslipper for years.  Photography wasn't an issue.
The only thing our pathologists noted were sometimes after the slides had
been filed, there were scratches on the coverslips.  Pretty easily remedied
by removing and recoverslipping them, and only a few needed this.

I started using the tape coverslipper when I worked for a group of very
picky pathologists who took pictures daily. They didn't even notice when we
switched to the tape system and the photography was fine.
