Lynn McKee has asked about the availability of Alcian yellow.  It is 
no longer available as a dye powder, and few stain manufacturers have 
any left for their solutions.

Anatech Ltd. has developed an alternative which is currently 
undergoing shelf-life testing.  We hope to have further news in 
another 3 months.  In the meantime, if you have any of the dye, use a 
0.2 % solution, not 1.0%.  The dye is soluble only to the extent of 
about 0.2%, so if you try to dissolve more, you are only wasting a 
precious resource.
