Cartilage matrix contains an abundance of sulphate-ester groups. Tissues of
this kind are not attracted by a negatively charged surface such as glass
with its silicate ions or "charged" slides. I have the best luck with
Chrome Gelatin coated slides when I have to deal with cartilage.
