I haven't done any searches on the subject but I do recall an article in
the Journal of the Society for the Study of Amphibians and Reptiles
which studied arrest lines in salamanders using standard histology
techniques (decalcification and paraffin embedding). I'll try to get a
hold of it over the weekend.
