In our dermatopathology lab, we soften nails in a 10% sodium hysdroxide
solution
for approx 2-4 hours. Check that they are soft before sending them through the
tissue processor. We mount the nails on "Plus Charged Slides" for special
stains
and for the
H & E. Hope this helps.
