Re: Alizarin or xylenol? {Also BSC and Conn's]

From:"J. A. Kiernan"

These dyes are both briefly reviewed, each with 3 or 4
references to recent original papers, in the 10th edition
of Conn's Biological Stains, edited by Richard Horobin
with me as his sidekick. For availability, check out
http://pulish.uwo.ca/~jkiernan/bookfind.htm#CONN

I'm happy to plug this book on the Histonet listserver
because Richard and I do not receive any royalties from
sales. The editing was part of our academic work (salaries
paid by universities) and was also supported by the
Biological Stain Commission. Any profits that might be
gained from sales of Conn go to the Commission, which has
been working to improve stains for 78 years.

If your lab spends $150 on a copy of Conn's you will have a
book full of useful data, and for the price of 0.1 ml of an
antiserum or 2 grams of osmium tetroxide.

End of plug for the new Conn's.

The Biological Stain Commission's annual meeting is in
Rochester, NY on 6th to 7th June. Check out the
web site:
http://www.biostains.org
This is the most friendly science/technical meeting
anywhere. As one who hates most meetings I give the
BSC's annual gathering a 100% endorsement!
