Re: liver biopsy for quantitztive iron

From:Vicki Gauch

Carol,
Our lab sends liver biopsies to Mayo for quantitative iron and when I
called there initially to speak with them regarding how to handle the
specimens, they were very helpful. They told us we could submit them in
several ways. We opted for sending them a portion of our paraffin
embedded tissue that we just re-embed in another cassette. That has
worked really well for us....I would suggest your friend call Mayo
directly for specific instructions...

Hope that helps,

I'm trying to help a friend out who is looking for a written protocol
for
the initial handling (eg., collection, storage, fixation?) of liver bxs
 for
quantitative iron(assuming the specimen is actually sent out for the
procedure) - in cluding background information on what the procedure is
and
what it may involve. Thanks in advance for any help.
