Methanol is what the stain is made in and should probably be used for
fixation.  However, the pathologist sometimes view this stain subjectively
and will request only air drying or ethanol.  It is all in how they look at

This may sound like a dumb question, but is there any difference between
using methanol or using reagent alcohol to fix BM and other smears for
Wright/Giemsa staining?
