Subject: RE: Cost for PA/ Gross typing

Sandy,

I am uncertain what kind of response to give to this question.  I suppose it depends upon the individual Path. Asst's. employment situation.  I'm pretty sure that most Path. Assts. are not paid by the number or types of specimens that they examine, but instead are paid annual salaries, which are likely to also cover many other job responsibilities in addition to specimen examination.  Even Path. Assts. working per diem or part-time exclusively performing gross examinations are usually paid by the hour or by the day at a fixed rate independent of the number or types of specimens examined.  I have never heard of a Path. Asst. (AAPA member) who is paid per specimen dependent upon the level of complexity.  The AAPA should be able to provide detailed information about Path. Asst. salaries in regard to work setting, geographic location, years of experience, etc.  The Central Office telephone number is 1-800-532-AAPA.

Thanks,
Rich

I have been asked to provide cost for grossing by a PA and providing only gross typing  (no microscopic) . Anyone have any information? I would think that complexity (by CPT) would have higher cost. Any PA's have any figures?
Thanks
