I'm not sure, maybe some of the histonetters may have a more definitive
suggestion.
You might check references on pericapillary rosettes (in amyotrophic
lateral sclerosis, etc.) which are mostly composed of unmyelinated
degenerated axons.
I have seen the following antibodies used
VIP- Vasoactive intestinal polypeptide
PGP 9.5 - (protein gene product 9.5)
NSE - (Neuron Specific Enolase)
S100
but again I would defer to the experts out there.
