My safety officer in the hospital tells us that waste uranyl acetate is a hazardous waste and must be disposed of by a special waste hauler.   I know that uranyl acetate is slightly radioactive also.  We use it only for staining thin sections in electron microscopy and use less than 30 mls every two months.  We use the drop-staining method.  The quote from the waste hauler is astronomical.  What is everybody else doing with  waste uranyl acetate (2%) ?
