RX for static in the cryostat
From: | Andrea Grantham <algranth@u.arizona.edu> |
I think somebody may have asked what to do about static in the cryostat
while doing frozen sections. I know I was having a real problem with the
static because it is so dry here. If the slide got anywhere near the
section the section would lift up and wave around and often jump onto the
slide (rarely where it was to be positioned). Dryer fabric softener sheets
weren't helping.
I heard a suggestion and tried it the last two days and have been thrilled
with the results - it is as simple as this...place a small dish of absolute
alcohol inside the cryostat before starting the sectioning.
Worked for me!
Thanks to the GTI rep who mentioned this to us at our ASH workshop this
weekend!
