Dear Bonnie,
you might consider adding Sodium Bisulphite (Metabisulphate) to the schiff
rgt. This would be best if dissolved in a small amount of distilled water
first. This would only freshen up your reagent if excessive exposure to air
had produced oxidation.
You might consider putting your reagent in smaller aliquots with a minimum
air space, eg. blood collection tubes or 100ml amber pharmacy bottles. You
can expect a shelf life of between 8-12 months if stored in this way and
kept at 4C in the dark.
