IHC counterstaining

From:Jerry Chi-Yuan Hu <ragnarok@ruf.rice.edu>

Hello Histonetters,

Recently one of my collagues would like to stain for elastin using IHC,
and at the same time he would like to counterstain for collagen.

The only set of stains that I know of for collagen is Masson's trichrome,
but I do not know how the various staining solutions (and varying pHs)
will affect the IHC. Technically, after the detection kit has developed
the color, the antibody bonding should no longer matter, but I am not
sure...

Any suggestions on how I can counterstain for collagen fibers after IHC on
elastin will be greatly appreciated.
