fixing fat in skin

From:"Philopena, Jennifer"

Histology Guru's and Gurette's,
The fat layer in our rodent skin specimens (db/db mice) are blowing out and
we're not getting good sections.
We've been fixing skin in 4% paraformaldehyde for 18 hours, then processing
to paraffin at 30 minutes per reagent in the processor.
Lower water bath temps help a little, but the skin will wrinkle.
I've just read in a few histology books about formol-calcium, made with
formalin and calcium.
Has anyone used this fixative with skin samples?
Could there be a contra-indication for fixing skin samples with calcium?
What do you all use to fix and process rodent skin?
Thanks for your help.
Jennifer
