The use of latex is exremely widespread.  When one of our 
hygienists told me of her sensitivity recently (no jokes, please), I 
was startled to find that the plunger in cartridge of local anaesthetic 
syringes and  used by all dentists, I guess, is made of latex and is 
sufficient to give serious consequences to sensitive persons.
