I used to work at Hopkins Neuropathology lab, in the histology room, and we used eosin with phloxine B, but no biebrich's scarlet. Our recipe was:
1% Eosin stock:
Eosin Y.....................1.0 gm
Distilled water..........100 mls
1% Phloxine B stock:
Phloxine B..................1.0 gm
distilled water............100 mls
Working solution:
1% Eosin stock..........100 mls
1% Phloxine B stock....10 mls
Alcohol, 95%..............780 mls
Glacial acetic acid.........5 mls
I'm not sure why the recipe makes the odd amount of 895 mls total, but that's it. Good luck,

Several years ago there was a posting about an eosin recipe (containing
eosin, phloxin and Biebrich's scarlet). This formulation according to the
original posting was/is developed/used at Johns Hopkins Histopathol lab. I
used this formulation for a while and really liked it. Now I need to/have to
use it again but unfortunately somehow the file in my computer got lost.
Furthermore I could not find it in my histotechnology books/manuals despite
having an extensive collection. Could somebody E-mail me the recipe?
Sincerely,
Laszlo G. Komuves
