Scientific Safety Solvents produces a medical grade solvent and clearing agent called Hemo-De for use in Histology, Cytology, Hematology, Parasitology and Microbiology.
In 1992 we had an extensive study done on our product and it was published in the July issure of the Journal of Clinical Microbiology. Another study was done in August, 1996 where Hemo-De can be used to replace ethyl acetate in the formalin concentration procedure and for xylene and carbol-xylene in the trichrome stain. Formalin can be replaced with a saline/Hemo-De procedure. In July, 2000 another study was published in the Journal of Endodontics showing Hemo-De as a Gutta-Percha softening solvent.
Clinical laboratories have become concerned toward eliminating the use of toxic reagents, such as carbol-xylene, xylene, ethyl acetate and formalin in their laboratories. A problem of present-day laboratory managers and supervisors is the need to identify suitable cost-effective replacements for these highly toxic reagents without compromising quality and patient care. Hemo-De, a terpene-based xylene substitute with a pleasant citrus fragrance eliminates this problem.

Hemo-De is a superior solvent and clearing agent that can be used in all tissue processing, deparaffiniaing and slide preparation. Hemo-De is soluble with absolute alcohol and mounting media. Hemo-De is biodegradable, non-corrosive, non-flammable (cumbustible), does not contain benzene or toluene, has low toxicity levels, minimal tissue shrinkage and a pleasant citrus frangrance.
Note! Hemo-De is also a superior solvent and detreaser and can be used for all industrial and institutional applications. Hemo-De dries reasonably fast and does not leave any residue! (Good for the electronics field.)
