Title of Job: ASSOCIATE SCIENTIST (LABORATORY MANAGER)
 Grade: E16

 Area: PHL, SAIC, NCI-FCRDC, Frederick, MD

 Duties: Will manage all aspects of a high volume veterinary/histology
laboratory; necropsy; special and routine processing; microtomy to prepare
H&E slides from genetically-engineered mice and other experimental animals
for pathology evaluation; specialized microtomy (e.g. serial sections, PCR
conditions); special stains; immunohistochemistry; cryotomy; and quality
control.
 Will supervise and train an incumbent staff of senior technical personnel;
coordinate protocol development and other aspects of experimental studies
with PHL pathologists or Principal Investigators; upgrade technology to
automate production of histology materials; develop molecular histology
techniques and introduce new advanced technologies appropriate to the
program; and modify production techniques to suit special purposes.
Responsible for monitoring
and ensuring that histology materials are produced in a timely manner;
maintain oversight and implementation of all biological, chemical, and
radiological safety rules. Administrative duties include budget
development, oversight of subcontracts, procurement, and preparation of
reports.

Education, Experience and Other Requirements: M.S. degree in a biomedical
field with 7 years progressively responsible histology laboratory
experience, 3 of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; B.S.
degree with 10 years of related experience. Prefer experience in a
production environment. Demonstrated expertise in development of molecular
histology techniques. HTL or HT (ASCP) certification required.
