Klotz solution is supposed to be good for preservation of color.

Klotz Solution
 	433.00 gm	Chloral Hydrate (CCl3CH(OH)2)
	477.00 gm	Sodium Sulfate (Na2SO4)
	217.00 gm	Sodium Chloride (NACL)
	390.00 gm	Sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCO3)
	412.00 ml	Concentrated Formalin (HCHO)
	37.85 L	distilled water (H2O)

Mix with hot water.  Put formalin in last
