Hi Albert:

    As Kim mentioned fixing with an alcoholic fixative (methacarn or 
formalin-alcohol-acetic acid) will improve retention of GAG which should 
be plentiful in arteries. You can also put Safranin O (J. Ultrastructure 
Res. 54:451-460, 1976) or tannic acid (J. Histochem. Cytochem. 
31:783-790, 1983) in the fixative to increase retention.
