Martha,

I have recently started using a DAKO product called "Flourescent 
mounting medium" which is excellent. A bit on the expensive side but 
it is an aqueous mountant that dries relatively hard. At least the 
coverslips stay put and it doesn't dry back. I too got sick of the 
nail varnish saga.
