Having been a life-long blood donor, I commend those that are now coming
forward to donate.  However, as has been pointed out, the need for blood is
continuous.  I realize how difficult it can be to schedule regular donations
in our hectic lives so now may be the perfect time to campaign for blood
donations at your institution.  Our hospital began a program several years
ago of Red Cross blood drives every 8 weeks or so.  I haven't missed one yet
and most supervisors are more than happy to let you go for an hour for this
worthy cause.
