Sanderson's Rapid Bone Stain (Surgipath Item #01690) works well on plastic
embedded
ground sections in concert with a Van Gieson, Acid Fuchsin or Light Green
counterstain.

Also, the publication, Preparation of Histologic Sections (1988) by Dr Karl
Donath of the University of Hamburg contains fifteen additional staining
protocols that may be of use to you.
