My "Doctor of Philosophy" is in Pathobiology.  I am sorry for the confusion; I didn't mean to imply that one had to have an advanced degree to handle kidney biopsies, but merely wanted to point out that you might have to be a member of your institution's medical staff in order to issue an "intra-operative consultation".
