You are right to say such a microscope (stage) would be expensive.
I have just been looking at a 360 degree fully rotatable (is that a
word?) stage and decided to settle for a 180 degree right and left
as a cheaper option.  That is for polarised light studies.
Incidentally, I have a Zeiss "Sliding Stage", also for polarisation,
but more than that I know not.  I have not found anyone who wants
to use it or knows how to use it!!
It was bought as part of our initial start-up equipment by a member
of a different professional group which is known to be expert on
everything.
