Dear Mary Kay,
The issue of our employer not paying for us to attend NSH this year
resulted in one of my colleages leaving our company recently.
Although two spots were originally approved in the budget, and
travel/accommodation reservations were already made, when the
"powers-that-be" realized that two lowly research associates were
being sent to an out-of-state conference, we were informed that we
would not be permitted to attend. The insult to the injury came when
we were also informed that our not-yet-hired supervisor would be sent
instead. Fortunately for my colleage, her new employer agreed to send
her. Fortunately for me, the "powers-that-be" may one day see the
error of their ways and in the meantime are loosening the purse
strings for the purchase of our own automated immuno stainer.
