I think the method you are referring to is found in:
Dingerkus, G. and Uhler, L. "Enzyme Clearing of Alcian Blue Stained Whole
Small Vertebrates for Demonstration of Cartilage" Stain Technology V52 N.4
July 1997 p. 229-232 The technique uses alizarin red for the bone, alcian
blue for cartilage and a trypsin-KOH sequence to clear the tissue. If you
can't locate the article I could have it copied and faxed but B&W won't do
the absolutely beautiful pictures justice.
