It is true you can aquire different education routes, you may want to
consider a general science degree biology, chemistry, etc. so that later you
can broaden your scope and move into different directions. Histology is a
wonderful field, but right now the ladders are limited, either tech or
supervisor. It will take more background to become an A/P manager, or
eventually a lab manager. These may be long term goals for you to look at.
