There are three subsets of rat macrophages, well characterized and
discussed in the literature.  ED1, ED2 and ED3, all sold by Serotec.
Could it be that you need to also stain for ED2 and ED3, in order to
see what you need?  They work very will with similar dilutions as ED1.

phagocytes in lymphoid organs: distinct macropahge subpopulations in the rat
recognized by monoclonal antibodies to ED1, ED2 and ED3   They looked at
many tissues with all these antibodies.  Good review.
