Hi Leroy,
Concerning your H&E precipitate, I thought the idea about contacting Richard
Allan was a good one. The reason I asked you about whether or not you were
staining manually or automatically was because we recently had a problem
similar to the one you describe, for the first time, and believe it was
algae or something growing. We have a lot of algae type stuff growing under
our staining dishes and in our pipes of our relatively new automatic
stainer. As soon as we noticed the artifact on our slides, we changed all
solutions, washed all dishes in a dish washer with added bleach (top shelf),
and performed the recommended monthly maintenance on the stainer once per
week instead of once per month. The amorphous precipitate has not returned.
Don't know anything about the stainer you are using and if it could be a
similar problem. Good luck. Please, let me know what you determine the
problem to be.

Thank you for the ideas in response to my H&E stain precipitate problems, I
will be filtering regularly now. but not sure if that is really the
problem. I use an auto stainer (code-on, stainer). I use all Richard Allen
stains and bluing and clarifier. Never have had problems with precipitate
before and never use to filter before. I wonder if low water pressure in
the rinse would cause inadequate rinsing and leave that precipitate? I also
change/rotate solutions with every full run of 50 slides. any ideas?
