Shandon coverplate method is very efficient, we use the holders only,
and reuse coverplates after very careful washing, final rinse with MilQ or
triple distilled water. The holders with small amount of distilled
water in two chambers at bottom humidifies adequately, even overnight.

We have 5 holders, can do and have done 50 slides at a time, and about
to purchase more, setup time is minimal, reagent cost is greatly reduced since
there is little waste. Best of all, never have to pick up a slide except to
load coverplate and at end, grad students love it.

Has proven to be THE workhorse setup for a one person lab.
