RE: [Histonet] can anyone tell me

To fix them?

The fixative 'protects' the cells from the harmful effects of the
decalcifying fluid by stabilising the proteins. Also prevents the loss
of some cellular components that could be soluble by creating a protein
matrix that traps them. Basic premise of a fixative.
