RE: [Histonet] burned artifact

From:"Kemlo Rogerson"

I just get the feeling that if you have fixed the tissues properly then
there is 'relatively' little you can do to ruin it. I'm impressed that
you can buy all that just for the problem; try looking at your fixative.
Make sure its isotonic, the right pH and strength, and that you have
fixed it for long enough.

Subject: [Histonet] burned artifact

For the past couple of years we have been getting a
burned artifact in our biopsies. The pathologist have
said that on the slides the nucleus look smudged or
burned. It is mostly on the small bxs, but we have
seen it on larger specimens also. We have bought a
new tissue processor, and a new slide stainer thinking
that might be the problem. We are still seeing the
artifact. Is there anybody that might can tell us
what is causing the problem? We have tried everything
we can think of.
