A glass "hockey stick" works well for me.  Take a short (10 cm) piece of 6mm
glass rod.  Heat the end in a Bunsen burner flame and press it against a
stone counter top to bend it 90 degrees to the rest of the rod.  If the end
is rough, fire-polish it by holding it in the flame until the edges round
off.
If the sections fall off the rounded end, reheat and flatten it by grabbing
it while still red hot with pliers.  You may need to heat the pliers and
handle them with gloves to avoid cracking the glass.
