It is my understanding that the accessioning, gross assisting, and transcription is all part of the technical along with the processing, embedding, etc.  We charge the hospitals for the portion that we do here at the lab for the technical and they bill the patient.  The actual gross done by the pathologist or pathologist assistant is part of the professional component.
