Yes, they are worried about how formalin will affect the proteins.  When
they suspect that to be a problem, we do IHC in frozen section.

I read somewhere that there is some speculation that the proteins are often
protected by the fixative, which is why we can unmask them using AR. I guess
we've learned that heat isn't as much a factor in destroying them as first
thought, though I'm sure some are adversely affected.
