I suspect the recipé calls for Azure II-Eosinate, which is a sort of a salt of
the two dyes, Azure II and Eosin.  One is positively charged and the other
negatively charged.  If you mix aqueous solutions of the two, they sort of
combine, and the combination precipitates slowly out.  This is collected (by
paper filtration), washed with water, and dried.  It can then be dissolved in
an organic solvent (?methanol), and diluted to taste for the stain.  John
Kiernan's textbook explains it very nicely.
