RE: MAP 2 Antibodies

Sigma Immunologicals, Neomarkers and Sternberger Monoclonals have antibodies
to MAP-2. All work extremely well in FFPE material across a range of species
as the protein is well conserved, including human tissue. There are 3
isoforms of MAP-2, two are similarly sized at about 280kD (2a and 2b) the
other MAP-2c is of a lower molecular weight (70kD). The Noemarker MAP-2
antibodies are clones AP18 which recognises all three isoforms, 2a,b and c
(cat no. MS-250-P0,-P1 or -P, the P relates to volume), while the other
clone AP20 only recognises MAP-2a and 2b (cat no. MS-249-P0, -P1, -P). The
Sigma and Sternberger MAP-2 monoclonals also work extremely well in FFPE
material across many species, although they are different clones.

One of our neuropathologists has asked us to add an antibody to our
immunohistochemistry repertoire. It's for specific microtubule associated
proteins MAP2c,d. I understand that a recent publication suggests it as a
marker for oligodendroglial differentiation in mixed gliomas/glioblastomas.
We would want to use this on formaldehyde fixed, paraffin embedded (FFPE)
tissue.

The only reference I was given was a possible clone number 'AP18 or C' and I
am not sure if this was an in-house antibody or a commercial one.

The closest I have found so far is a Chemicon antibody to MAP2a,b,c but they
have not tried this on FFPE material. If anyone is using a commercially
available MAP2c,d I would be grateful for info on the source.

Thanks
