RE: Histo Resin

From:clocallo@leica-microsystems.com

Gail,

My understanding from our product manager that it was discontinued over two
years ago because of change in the FAA regulations coming into the United
States.. The Technovit 7100 kit is the same chemical as Histo Resin,
2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate, with the chemical activator, dibenzolperoxide.
Both are glycol methacrylate. For undecalicified bones the plastic
usually used is methyl methacrylate. Methyl methacrylate is harder than
HistoResin and requires more dehydrationof the tissue and has a longer
polymerization time. Energy Beam Sciences distributes Technovit 7100.
Histo Resin is still sold outside the United States. The Leica Histo Resin
is a private label for the Technovit.

I am new to Leica so don't when customers were notifed in the United
States. Sorry for the confusion.

Cathy,
Why didn't Leica inform its' customers that Leica would no longer sell
Histo Resin. I went to order it and was told by the sales rep. "Leica no
longer sells Histo Resin". A little warning would have been nice. Your
company didn't give our hospital any notice. Many of us are now left try to
learn how to work with Technovit before we run out of Histo Resin. Do you
know they are selling Technovit in bottles of 500ml with .6gm of activator
packs not the 1gm. And not enough packs to activate the 500mls of basic
resin. So it isn't the same to work with as the Histo Resin. Maybe you
could
look into it and find out why they aren't selling it with enough activator
for the whole bottle of basic resin. And it is not Energy Beam Sciences who
is selling it that way; they are receiving it from the company that makes
it
package this way.

Dear Sir,

Histo Resin is no longer available but you can purchase Technovit from
Energy Beam Sciences. It is the same product but with a different label.
