We also have the Leica because we had to have glass coverglass for photography reasons. We use the recommended coverglass and we have never had a breakage problem.

We don't have a problem with waves, we just make sure that enough xylene comes off onto the slides to adhere the tape and we have no problem. Do you have a problem with the glass coverslips breaking either before or during coverslipping?
