Dear Tom,

Surgipath sells Sanderson's Rapid Bone stain which clearly differentiates 
the bone matrix from non mineralized tissues structures such as osteoid, 
muscle and collagen.  Also the stain is very easy to do.  There are 2 
counterstains that are used routinely, van Gieson and an acidified acid 
fuchsin.  Try it and see if it gives the results you are looking for.
