We used to use PBS without detergent for our alk. phos. frozens and 
cytospins because we were afraid of loss of tissue due to falling off. We 
later discovered that the detergent did not cause the sections to fall off, 
and did not seem to have any negative effect on the alk. phos. staining of 
paraffin , frozen , or cytospin material.
