RE: thanks for the info on dpx

LOL.
From the replies, including mine, it seems that DPX, like "God", is different things to different people.
The authority for my version was checked with "Bancroft sand Stevens", the British bible.

The exact entry there is (Kirkpatrick and Lendrums DPX) {yet another Lendrum brilliance}
Distrene 80		10G
Dibutyl phthalate	5ml
Xylene		35ml

The version quoted by Roy Ellis is in (Bancroft) as "Polystyrene mountant", as follows:

Polystyrene granules	25G
Dibutyl phthalate		5ml
Xylene			70ml

As you can see, there is quite a difference, notably the absence of polystyrene from DPX!

BTW, I have made perfectly good mountant by bunging expanded polystyrene into xylene until the right thickness. Some sort of preservative might have been added, but I never had any problems, and the slides are still good 20 years on.
Not only does it work, but it's fun seeing how many crates of expanded polystyrene you can get into a bottle:-)

Thank you to all who responded to my inquiry about dpx! Now we know what it
is and where to get it or (egads!) how to make it ourselves.
Histonet is super!
